Oh Has It Been Crazy...

Oh has it been crazy around here!  Two weeks ago, my little family joined my In-Laws up in Big Bear, California for a nice week long vacation.  We hiked, went out on the lake, took a drive in the mountains, pic-nicked, and attended a car show.  We celebrated 5 years of marriage.  Has it really been 5 years?  I feel so grown up when I say I have been married for 5 years, own a house, have a beautiful daughter, and am running my own business...at the age of 26!  I look forward to what the next 5 years have in store, and the many many years after that!

Here is a family photo we took while on vacation:

But, back to the crazyness!  When we got back from Big Bear, the following Monday, we took our daughter to her Pediatric Ophthalmologist for her post-op appointment and to re-check her eyesight.  GREAT NEWS, the surgery was 100% successful!  Now, the not so great news, but good news in the fact we have a treatment plan.  Our sweet little girl needs glasses.  She is +5.75 in her left eye and +4.00 in her right.  Talk about heart wrenching!  We had NO CLUE her eyes were that bad!  Here is a link that shows what she sees.  You just have to slide the bar at the bottom to the prescription for each eye.  She is farsighted, which translates to the fancy medical term of Hyperopia and she has a different refractive power in each eye, Anisometropic; together we get Hyperopic Anisometropia.

Immediately following the appointment, we went to a different Kaiser that has an optical shop.  That was kinda a waste of time.  Finding frames for infants and toddlers is so hard!  Kaiser didn't have the toddler friendly frames we were looking for, so we trekked over to Eyes for Kids and Teens in Clairemont Mesa and found exactly what we were looking for.  The staff was friendly and welcoming.  Since they specialize in kids and teens, they were able to find us a frame that fit our daughter's face perfectly, but also found a frame that gave her room to grow.  The downside...they didn't take our insurance.  We paid $80 out of pocket for frames (I submitted a reimbursement form to VSP to hopefully get something back).  The frames came in yesterday, which meant I had to drive from my house to Walmart to purchase a back-up pair at $58 (not bad).  My daughter and I then drove from Walmart to Eyes for Kids and Teens.  After waiting for about 10 minutes, I had my daughter's frames in hand. Since they did not take our insurance (we were not going to pay them $230 to make the lenses), we headed into El Cajon to our wonderful Optometrist's office New View, and they are going to be able to make the lenses and bill our insurance.  So, frames and lenses, with insurance= $195.  Yikes!  And our daughter's prescription could change in 3 or 4 months, which means EVERYTHING is out of pocket at that point!  $195+ $40 Ophthalmology and Optometry appointment+$58 glasses from Walmart= $293 which doesn't include all the gas used to drive all over San Diego County.  If her prescription changes, we are looking at saving the frames, and just ordering lenses, but it will probably still be close to $250.  Looks like this Momma is going to be working double time!

I have joined a great little community of parent's with kids who are in glasses called Little Four Eyes.  The wealth of information and personal experience is amazing!  I am so glad I found them!  Now, I am on the hunt to find my daughter a little friend who wears glasses!
